Top 3 things to know if using Oura Ring / Natural Cycles as birth control:

It is *the most exciting thing ever* that more and more tech is coming out revolving around helping a woman identify when she is fertile or not fertile, naturally. I am *loving* this for us. It’s making a natural method of birth control more accessible. It’s allowing women to have better insight into when they’re ovulating, if they are trying to get pregnant. It’s even becoming ~trendy~.

I love it.

But, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind if you are using the Oura Ring/Natural Cycles to try and help you avoid getting pregnant (aka - as natural birth control).

 1) Every single cycle that you experience can be different.

  • I’m not saying it will be. But it can be. So, you could have a 29 day cycle in April, and a 34 day cycle in May because of stress, illness, or even travel.
  • Oura Ring says this on their website. This feels like a lot of circumstances that ‘could result in an inaccurate fertility status’....

2) These devices are using PAST data to tell you when it thinks you’re ovulating THIS cycle.

  • If you typically ovulate day 14-16, NC is likely going to predict you’’ll ovulate in that time frame.
  • But, what happens when you were super stressed out in the beginning of your cycle and it delays your ovulation???

3) Oura Ring’s website specifically says do not use their device as contraception.

HooOOollldd up.

Does this mean I think you shouldn’t use NC/Oura Ring to help you avoid pregnancy? No! I don’t want that to be the takeaway.

BUT, you should learn the information for yourself, so that you can double check what NC/Oura ring is telling you. It’s a computer, so it can be wrong.

You are smarter than the computer. I don’t know why, but we as women tend to rely on external things/people/devices as if they’re better / smarter than us and they just literally aren’t?!?!!? You can learn the information, interpret the chart for yourself, and then double check against what it’s telling you.

Xoxo! Have questions? DM us and let us know!
