Wait... Is this normal? Period edition.
Hey TNB ladies! This week were talking about what’s normal and what’s not - period edition!
Here’s the weekly tea.
FAV CLEAN PRODUCT THIS WEEK:
- I have been loving Merit Beauty for cleaner makeup! The products are formulated to meet European Union standards, which ban over 1,400 potentially harmful ingredients.
- The blush and the contour stick are my JAM and make throwing on makeup a little quicker and easier with an infant :)

Okay now let’s get back to… is this normal - period edition!
We all know how important our period is and some experts even call it the fifth vital sign for women. While we were maybe brought up thinking that our period was gross, inconvenient or maybe even pointless (cue the encouragement to try a BC option that eliminates “the hassle” of it all together), we want to shift the narrative and remind you that your period is AMAZING and it can actually tell you so much about your body.
Here’s a few things that are normal:
- Cycle length can vary! It doesn’t have to be exactly the same length each month and doesn’t need to be exactly 28 days each month.
- We hopefully will see that cycles are consistently around the same length each cycle with only a 2-3 day variation
- Blood color can vary from bright red to slightly more brown and this can also be normal
- Slight cramping can be normal
Here’s just a few things that are NOT normal:
- Excruciating pain before or during your period
- Going 3 months without a period without a known explanation
- A super heavy flow that causes you to soak through a pad or tampon every hour for several consecutive hours
- Bleeding for more than 7 days straight
While this isn’t an all inclusive list, it should help you start to notice if your period seems “normal.” If you’re noticing some of the signs or symptoms mentioned above that are not normal, it may be your clue to start talking about these topics with your provider.
As always! While we’re not medical professionals, we’re here to chat if you have any comments or questions. Have a wonderful week!
Xoxox,
